Katy’s Blog – part 1

We  thought the best way for everyone to understand what goes on during an apprenticeship was to get one of our apprentices point of view. Katy is doing her Supply Chain Warehouse Operative apprenticeship with us and has very kindly agreed to keep you all up to date.

I started my Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship on the 22^nd of June 2017.  I am based at G . D & M Dunglinsons at Brunstock.

In my first two days I was at SP Training for a Customer Service Course and my induction.  The induction was Jayne telling me what would be happening and when during my apprenticeship and I had to do some initial assessments to see what level I was at for maths & English.

Following that I went into my work place, in the first week I was taught how to input stock sales onto the system and where products are kept in the back stores.

I returned to SP for a day to complete a Health and Safety Course.  It wasn’t the most exciting day of my life but it had to be done.

Since returning to work I have been trained in many other areas such as ordering, putting deliveries away in stores, creating delivery notes, re-organsing and cleaning stores, e-mailing and inputting time sheets.

I am currently at the end of my two weeks of Maths and English at SP.  Which as you can expect I am glad it’s nearly over with! For part of the English we had to do a presentation, I did mine on 11 degrees clothes.

Since becoming an apprentice I have turned 17 and bought my self a brand new Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec in white with a candy blue roof and wing mirrors.  Starting my apprenticeship has changed me in the aspect that before I started my apprenticeship I did not care about doing anything, all I wanted to do was go out and live my life how I thought was right at the time.  Now, I feel happier and I don’t feel like I am wasting my life away anymore. Doing this has boosted my confidence a lot and reduced my anxiety.
