Mental Health In The Workplace – are you prepared?

Today is My Whole Self day – a campaign delivered by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England, that aims to champion workplace culture change, so employees feel comfortable to bring their whole self to work.  System People Education and SP Training are proud to be supporting My Whole Self this year.

In 2021, we shouldn’t feel like we have to leave parts of our identity behind – be that our cultural or ethnic background, gender identity, sexuality, disability, or health. The My Whole Self campaign is calling on organisations to empower employees to bring their whole self to work and support their own and others’ wellbeing.

In a global study during COVID-19, 89% of employees have said their work-life was getting worse and 85% said their wellbeing declined (Harvard Business Review, February 2021). Ensuring everyone feels safe and confident to speak up and contribute in the workplace will better support peoples’ mental health. It will also help our organisation, and others, to thrive post-pandemic.

We know that actions speak louder than words, which is why we are extremely excited to announce our partnership with Able Futures – to offer our employees, apprentices, and learners at any level free mental health resources.

In addition to providing a free service and resource in your workplace for staff to utilise when required, mental health training is important for employees too.

At System People, we know the importance of delivering mental health training and offer a number of mental health training courses for line managers and employees. We are also excited to add a new course to our portfolio and we will shortly be launching our mental health first aid courses (accredited by Mental Health First Aid England).

As part of the expansion of our mental health training, we are delighted to have been accredited to deliver our Mental Health in Logistics course which focuses on mental health and wellbeing in the Logistics sector.  This forms part of our suite of Driver CPC courses.

All of our mental health courses will equip learners with the knowledge and skills to better understand mental health and mental illness, to have good quality conversations with your friends, family members, or work colleagues about mental health, and to feel more confident supporting others who may be experiencing poor mental health, particularly in the workplace.

Rebecca Bird, Mental Health Course Leader and Managing Director at System People, states:

Rebecca Bird, Managing Director, System People

“As lockdown eases, mental health training has never been more important for businesses and employees as statistics show that the pandemic has had a significant impact on our mental health.  It’s important that senior leaders, line managers, and HR departments have an in-depth understanding of the factors that can affect wellbeing and support an employee in distress.

It’s also important that attitudes towards mental health are non-judgemental, and we are nurturing a work culture that welcomes honest conversation about mental health  – it’s what will help us grow and ultimately, increase productivity and creativity”
