SP Training Celebrates a Remarkable Season for Crusaders FC Reds

As proud supporters of Crusaders FC Reds, we’ve had the pleasure of following the team’s journey throughout the season and watching them go from strength to strength.

Recently, we caught up with Coach Mike Reed to hear more about what has been a fantastic year for the team and the people behind it.

Crusaders FC was formed over 20 years ago by former Carlisle United player Mark Birch with his wife Kim Birch and together have grown into one of the area’s most respected grassroots football clubs, now supporting almost 20 teams from Under 7s through to adult football.

A Season to Remember

For the Crusaders, this season has been packed with memorable moments, achievements and opportunities.

The team played 25 league games, winning an impressive 19 and scoring an incredible 101 goals along the way. They also lifted the Warwick Wanderers Tournament trophy in May, competing against 25 teams from across Cumbria and the North East.

Opportunities Beyond the Pitch

The success didn’t stop there. The team were also invited to play at Newcastle United’s First Team Training Ground and Sunderland’s Academy of Light – experiences that many young footballers can only dream of and a fantastic reward for all of their hard work throughout the season.

The People Behind the Success

Behind every successful grassroots team is a dedicated group of volunteers and coaches. For the Crusaders Reds, that’s Mike Reed, Coach David and Coach Lee, who dedicate their time to help develop and support their players.

When asked what has been behind the team’s success this season, Mike’s answer was simple.

The boys truly enjoy being there. Their attitude has been amazing all season. They listen, they work hard and they have a genuine willingness to learn. The support from parents has also been fantastic and makes a huge difference.

Speaking to Mike, it quickly became clear that whilst the results have been impressive, the real success story is the culture that has been created around the team. Teamwork, dedication, friendship and enjoyment sit at the heart of everything they do.

Why Sponsorship Matters

When we asked what local sponsorship means to a grassroots football club, Mike was quick to highlight the impact it has.

It’s huge. Clubs like ours are run entirely by volunteers and sponsorship makes a real difference. The support from SP Training has been fantastic. It means the world to the boys when they get a new strip and have the opportunity to represent their team. It helps them feel proud and part of something special.

That’s exactly why we’re proud to support Crusaders Reds and the fantastic people behind the club.
