A Journey We're Proud to Share

From the British Army to logistics, John Kennedy’s career has taken him on quite a journey! Now Head of Logistics at SP Training, John is a brilliant example of where military experience can take you.

And we’re especially proud to share his story because he’s one of our own!

From Military Service to Logistics

John’s time in the British Army gave him a strong foundation in discipline, teamwork and staying calm under pressure. When he left the Forces, logistics felt like a natural next step.

He moved into LGV driver training, where he discovered a real passion for helping others develop skills that could change their futures.

“My roots are in the British Army, which gave me a strong foundation in discipline, teamwork, responsibility and staying calm under pressure.”

What started as an unexpected career direction eventually led John to his current role as Head of Logistics at SP Training.

“It certainly wasn’t a career path I planned out, but looking back, it makes perfect sense.”

More Than Just Passing a Test

For John, becoming a professional driver is about much more than getting your HGV licence. It’s about developing the confidence, awareness and judgement to make the right decisions on the road.

One piece of advice his learners will probably know well is:

“Don’t drive the bit of road you’re on. Drive the bit you’re going to be on.”

It’s John’s way of reminding learners to think ahead, anticipate what’s coming and always put safety first.

It’s an approach that reflects the discipline and responsibility he developed during his time in the British Army, and something he continues to pass on to the next generation of drivers at SP Training.

Helping Others Succeed

For John, one of the most rewarding parts of driver training is watching learners grow in confidence and begin making decisions for themselves.

“There’s a point where you realise, they’re no longer just following instructions. They’re actually thinking like a professional driver.”

And his biggest piece of advice for anyone learning to drive an HGV?

“Don’t chase perfection. Chase improvement.”

It’s a simple message, but one that reflects John’s approach to training: learn from your mistakes, keep moving forward and make every drive better than the last.

Proud of His Service. Proud to Have Him on Our Team.
