These opportunities are part of the LGV Government Skills Bootcamp Scheme and includes gaining your Class 1 (Articulated) Licence. Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer.
So you want to train as an HGV Driver!
The Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life. HGV Bootcamps are intense training courses and are designed to quickly train individuals in the skills required to drive HGV vehicles. These Bootcamps are short intense driving programs that offer you fully funded training to gain your HGV licence and make you ‘road ready’ with either a Category C (Rigid) or Category C&E (Articulated) licence.
What You’ll Do:
Once you have completed your fully funded medical and theory training, you will then gain an interview with a local employer in the hope to secure a permanent job as a driver once you have completed your practical training and gained your licence.
Life of a driver
Working as an LGV Driver can offer you a rewarding career route. You are on the road traveling to many different locations across the UK and sometimes even further! You get to focus on your practical skills – the complete opposite of a 9-5 office job. If you are a keen explorer, lorry driving gives you the licence to travel. If you are operating over long-distance journeys, your job will take you all over the country, with each day providing an exciting new view.
Essential Skills & Experience Required:
Excellent communication skills
A safety-first mindset
Reasonable physical fitness
