Autumn Apprentice Update from our Functional Skills Team!

This month we hear from our Functional Skills Manager, Lesley Williams, to get an Autumn Apprentice update from all our current learners!

Autumn Apprentice Update

It has been all hands-on-deck since the beginning of September. The English and Maths tutors have delivered quality training during power weeks, supporting learners through to completion. The results are testimony to the hard work of both tutors and apprentices, with 80 passes so far since September.

Apprentices are absorbing every opportunity, as they pass level 1 and progress onto level 2, with many learners achieving highly across both subjects. If they have not passed these subjects before, nothing is holding them back now! We are particularly pleased with how well learners are passing at level 2. Some learners are creating a serious leader-board with their exam results!

Level 2 Maths

Well done and congratulations goes to those with results well over and above the level 2 pass mark. This includes apprentices from Farmfoods, BCA, Asda and AW Jenkinson. One BCA learner smashed it out of the ball park with a whopping 66/70 marks. Our tutors, Paul and Jade, are wondering how he managed to only drop four marks!

Level 2 English

Hats off to apprentices from XPO, Richard Rose Central Academy, BCA, Asda, WCF Chandlers and Farmfoods for achieving their full level 2 English qualifications. A special mention to one Farmfoods learner, for achieving 26/30 in his reading exam – one of the strongest passes so far. A G4S apprentice showed his flair for writing with 42/54.

Speaking and listening

The English tutors are lucky enough to be able to listen to a range of fascinating presentations, as they assess the speaking and listening element of the course. Chantel and James would like give a special mention to an apprentice from Asda Erith and another from Caldew School. These apprentices put in such a lot of effort, resulting in well organised and professional presentations. Great work!

Super achievers

These apprentices are those who have passed all level 1 and level 2 exams in both English and maths. Last year we had 12 apprentices who fell into this category. I would like to make a special mention to two learners from Asda Erith and Farmfoods who have reached super achiever status!

Recognition

All learners who achieve exam passes in maths and English (all three parts), from September onwards, will be automatically entered into our monthly draw, with the chance to win a £50 gift voucher. Winners so far include an apprentice from Farmfoods Monkspath and another from BCA Portbury. Watch this space for our November winner, which will be drawn on the 15th December.
